What is the ABA method with autism?

The ABA method with autism uses the science of learning to teach useful skills and reduce behaviors that get in the way, one small step at a time.

It starts with an assessment by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. The BCBA picks goals with your family, like asking for help, playing with other kids, using the toilet or handling transitions. Each skill is broken into small parts and practiced with rewards that matter to your child. Teaching can be structured, like discrete trial training, or built into play and daily routines.

Every session produces data, and the BCBA uses it to adjust the plan. Parent training is usually part of the program too, so new skills hold up at home as well as in sessions.
