What are some red flags in ABA therapy?

Some red flags in ABA therapy are hours set before any assessment, goals that are only about compliance and a provider that keeps you out of sessions.

There are others. Nobody can name the BCBA supervising your child. Food, toys or comfort items get withheld as a routine tactic. You never see progress data. You’re pushed to sign a payment agreement quickly, sometimes for services your insurance would cover. And the schedule won’t bend around school or family life, which can mean the provider is fitting your child to its staffing.

One red flag doesn’t always mean a bad provider, but each one deserves a direct question. If the answers stay vague, compare a few other providers in your area.
